Why hire a public adjuster?

The Public Adjuster Fiduciary Advantage

Facing a major insurance claim is a complex process with many players. Unlike others, a public adjuster holds a legal fiduciary duty, meaning your financial interests are protected from the very beginning. This guide explains how this unique advantage, combined with a strategic approach, empowers you to get a fair settlement. Starting with a public adjuster is the most empowering and strategic step for policyholders.

The different types of adjusters and their role in the claim process.

Most policyholders don't realize there are three types of adjusters who might handle their claim. Understanding the difference is the first step to getting the settlement you deserve.

Staff Adjuster
Independent Adjuster
Public Adjuster
Staff Adjuster
The Insurance Company's Adjuster

  • Works for the insurance company.
  • Primary goal is to protect the company's financial interests.
  • May offer a settlement based on their evaluation, which may be lower than the true cost.
  • The Rook: Like a rook in chess, the staff adjuster operates in straight lines and within the confines of the insurance company's interests. Their movements are often predictable and aimed at a direct path dictated by internal policies.
Independent Adjuster

The "Independent" Contractor

  • Often hired by the insurance company to handle claims, especially during major events.
  • Paid by the insurance company, so their allegiance is still with the insurer, not you.
  • Not truly independent, as their business depends on getting future work from the insurance carriers.
  • The Knight: Just like a knight on the chessboard, an independent adjuster may seem to move uniquely and unpredictably, but their movements are often influenced by the insurance company that employs them. Their allegiance can appear flexible, but ultimately, they are working for the entity that hired them.
Public Adjuster

The Policyholder's Advocate

  • The only type of adjuster who works exclusively for you, the policyholder.
  • Evaluates you claim independently to secure the best settlement possible.
  • Handles all communication and negotiation with the insurance company reducing your stress.
  • The Queen: A public adjuster is like the queen on the chessboard - the most powerful and versatile piece. We move freely to protect your interests, negotiate strategically, and help you navigate the entire claims process to achieve the best possible outcome.

Public Adjuster vs. Contractor vs. Attorney:
The Fiduciary Choice

Understanding the difference between a public adjuster, contractor, and attorney is crucial for your insurance claim. Many policyholders are confused about who to hire first after property damage. This guide clarifies the distinct roles and ethical relationships of each professional. Learn why your fiduciary advocate is the only one legally obligated to put your financial interests first for a fair and full insurance settlement.
